I've created a clickable "photo guide" to the Angkor
sites I visited. Click
on
each site to bring up an photo album, with
commentary about each site. When you're done with each
album, simply close the window to come back for more! I hope
this will encourage more people to really visit and spend the
time at Angkor, a place that should be high on the list
of every traveler. As
you can see, Angkor is HUGE. Like most people, I first heard
about "Angkor Wat,"
the temple which shares its name with the city ("wat" means
temple). But there is much much more to see here than just that.
To give you a sense of the scale of the lost city of Angkor,
take a look at these side by side images of Angkor and New York
City:
If
I had truly appreciated the size of Angkor before my trip, I
would have planned to spend more than three days there. I was
only just starting to get a sense of this entire lost civilization,
in which the royal
court traveled by elephant and the kings welcomed Budhists and
Hindus alike into these grand temples... Links

Angkor Guide -- A free download and an extensive coverage
of Angkor sites. The guide is based on a 50-year
old book, but thousand-year-old ruins

much

50
years!

Park.
- The Angkor
Wikipedia entry has a pretty good high-level overview
of the site's history and main temples.
